Biography

Thandiwe Shiphrah (pronounced Tahn-dee-way Shif-rah) is a multidisciplinary artist and community activist who writes for print and performance.   She performs on literary and theater arts programs around the country, both as a solo artist and with her husband musician/composer Daniel Arite in a poetry and music duo known as The Bosch Institute  (www.sonicbids.com/TheBoschInstitute). Incorporating vocal improvisation and a variety of percussion instruments, her performances are multi-faceted rhythmic journeys that call us toward fulfillment of our most treasured dreams and aspirations. Thandiwe is a seasoned presenter who has performed in a variety of venues, including conferences, festivals, public schools, prisons, libraries, museums, and theater productions. Whether her audience is large or small, she delivers her material with humor, earnestness, and an exciting lyrical style.

She currently serves on the Tennessee Arts Commission’s Citizen Advisory Panel for Literary Arts, and she is a member of the Advisory Board of the Global Education Center, where she teaches and performs in both its school and community outreach programs.

Thandiwe is founder of Logos Rhythms, a Nashville-based community arts consulting practice that designs and facilitates poetry and creativity presentations for local and national nonprofits.  She lectures and offers workshops year round for conferences, retreats, and other gatherings.
